NHS England pledges specialist maternal mental health services in every part of the country

  • New & expectants mums in England will be better able to access specialist mental health support including OT by April 2019
  • £23 million scheme is expected to transform specialist perinatal services enabling 30000 additional mums to access evidence based treatment closer to home & when they need it
  • According to department of health 1 in 5 women will experience a mental health problem during pregnancy & in the first year of birth
  • OTs have a clear role in supporting pregnant women & new mums, offering a unique perspective on women’s psychosocial, physical & emotional needs
